About the Project

The main objective of Enhancing higher education e-learning structures and modules in conflict regions of East Africa (Kenya, Sudan and South Sudan) will be carried out under 8 specific objectives:

IDENTIFICATION OF INFRASTRUCTURE SOLUTIONS

These efforts include assessing internet access at universities and in the community, proposing realistic solutions to improve access, and training local technicians to effectively implement and maintain satellite connections.
DEVELOPMENT OF E-LEARNING STRUCTURES

DEVELOPMENT OF E-LEARNING STRUCTURES

This initiative includes strategizing internet access for lecturers and students and deploying hardware to host e-learning platforms at each partner university, ensuring robust support for online education.

TUNNING OF COMMON e-LEARNING PLATFORM

TUNNING OF COMMON e-LEARNING PLATFORM

The process involves installing and operating the e-learning platform, establishing virtual e-learning centers, and creating tools and a management center to effectively support learning management systems (LMS).

TRAINING IN NEW LEARNING METHODS

TRAINING IN NEW LEARNING METHODS

Training local educators includes sessions on Moodle and e-material preparation, adopting innovative e-learning methods, and aligning teaching practices with Bologna standards to enhance educational quality and promote effective, modern approaches in line with European guidelines.

CREATING TRANSVERSAL E-LEARNING EDUCATIONAL MODULES

The development of transversal e-learning educational modules is crucial to enhance flexible and inclusive learning opportunities. This process includes structuring the modules, configuring and producing high-quality educational materials, and conducting a pilot phase to evaluate and refine the modules for optimal effectiveness.

Project management will be based on fluid communication and respect to the rest of the partners; active participation of all persons involved; technical efficiency in the implementation of tasks; efficiency in the cost of all the programmed activities and transparency in the technical and administrative reports.

Developing a legal platform for online programs is essential to ensure proper implementation and compliance with regulations. The process involves organizing a workshop to establish standard practices for creating a legal framework for online programs.

DISSEMINATION AND EXPLOITATION

The promotion of the goals, activities and results of the project will be an important part for its sustainability and communication with society. Dissemination tasks include promoting online modules,  conferences, websites and use of social netowkrs, reports and promotional booklets.

The University of Eldoret (UeD) is a public university established upon the award of the Charter by the President on 11th February, 2013. The University is Science, Agriculture and Technology based and has grown steadily to host 7 faculties with 34 academic departments and a student population of above 14,000. The University of Eldoret offers Diploma, Undergraduate, Graduate and Short Courses programmes. Teaching and non-teaching staff number over 1,300. The total University acreage is 1,054, part of which is set aside for agricultural production.

The Comboni College of Science and Technology (CCST) was approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Sudan in 2001. Most of its programmes have to do with ICT: BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Information Technology; Diplomas in IT-Accounting and IT-Management. It also offers a BSc in Nursing Sciences, a BA in English Language and Literature and a BA in Educational and Christian Religion Studies. In 2019, it was established a Start-up Incubator to facilitate the creation of ICT based or driven companies by Sudanese and refugee young persons.

The Al-Ahfad University for Women (AUW) was founded in 1966 as a private university college dedicated to women’s education and strengthening their role in national, regional and international endeavours. In 1995, it was given the status of a full-fledged university to be Ahfad University for Women (AUW). AUW’s mission and strategic policies focus on achieving women’s empowerment, gender equity and equality in development. To date, AUW has eight schools and nine affiliated entities for academic facilities, research and community services. AUW has 410 full-time teaching faculty, 62% are female Professors, around 8.700 undergraduate and graduate student population. National students at AUW represent the (18) states of the country with variation, with particular attention to those from the states in the conflict zones, who are offered positive discrimination, especially when it comes to fee settlements.

The Catholic University of South Sudan (CoSS) was established in 2007 with the purpose of transforming the society by providing quality education to all.  In September 2008, the Catholic University welcomed the first students to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in Juba, capital of Central Equatoria State. In October 2009, the Catholic University inaugurated the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in Wau in Western Bahr El Ghazal State. The university in its eighth academic year has an enrolment of more than 1775 students in Juba and 172 students in Wau. Already the University’s first four classes have graduated with a total of 2,705 graduates.

The St. Mary’s College in Juba (SMUCJ) was established on 2009 by Usratuna (OVCI) to rehabilitate children with deformed physical fitness or syndrome associated disabilities in their health facility but expanded to other public hospitals and centres. It is the only institution offering physiotherapy at a degree level in South Sudan. The total number of Students graduated since then were about 700 and the number is increasing. In terms of staff, St. Mary’s College employed qualified lecturers from Ms to PhD, total to 30. St. Mary’s College beliefs in unity and professionalism, diversity, non-partisan, equality and justice for all.
